Job Description

 

Manufacturing Service and Support Technician - Machinist- 1st Shift

 

A Service Parts Machining Technician encompasses the job functions required to fabricate raw material for use in assembly using conventional, special purpose and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathe and mill equipment.  This function is an internal supplier for our assembly areas.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Follows attendance guidelines, rarely absent or late, pre-schedules and pre-approves absences
  • Follows safety & housekeeping standards and procedures, uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and looks after the safety of others.
  • Follows standard work procedures, self acknowledges and corrects mistakes, works to avoid errors and get it right the first time.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using an ISIR process.
  • Understands proper use and care of all gages and inspection equipment used in the cell used to verify conformance of work piece to specifications.
  • SPMT also must demonstrate setting up / and or choosing correct gaging for specific job and have working knowledge of CMM operations.
  • Ability to meet or exceed productivity goals, manages time wisely, stays on task requiring little supervision to get the job done. 
  • Selects, aligns, & secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as CNC mills, CNC lathes, Manual lathes and mills, Grinders, and Gear Hobbs
  • Must also have the ability to design and make fixtures for short run parts as needed.
  • Understands the configuration and process for building and setting tools by using a pre-setter.
Background & Skills

 

  • Ability to interpret/understand/explain all machine moves within programs. This includes thorough knowledge of all M and G codes and has the capability to edit programs as need.
  • Ability to utilize program knowledge in order to safely perform rework of parts as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to interpret prints, read gauges and convert units from standard to metric
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations.

 

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is at a level the company recommends hearing protection.
