Job Description

Danfoss in Ames, Iowa is seeking a Material Flow Intern to join our factory services team. The factory services team in Ames manages the inbound material flow of component parts into the facility through to the outbound material flow of finished product to end customer. This internship will provide the intern the opportunity to work on medium to large-scale projects related to safety, quality of process, continuous improvement, and material flow.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and implementation of material flow processes to improve safety, quality, and productivity
  • Performing calculations and statistical analysis to analyze system and process performance
  • Collecting and analyzing data for material flow through the factory
  • Supporting Factory Services continuous improvement projects
  • Improving material flow productivity and efficiency
  • Review data of department performance to identify improvement activities
  • Support cross-functional department projects related to end-to-end supply chain goals

  • Required qualifications
    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management (sophomore and above preferred)
    • Candidate must be located in the Ames area
    • Commitment to work at least 8 months beginning in Spring semester (full-time ~40 hours per week in the summer; part-time 15-20 hours per week during the spring/fall semester(s)
  • Preferred qualifications
    • Basic knowledge of End-to-End Supply Chain processes and Material flow best practices 
    • General Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts (5s, Kaizen, Kanban, PDCA, Poka-Yoke, etc..)
    • Familiarity with standard operating procedures and controlled documents (MIFA, Control plan and PFMEA)
  • Job Criteria

    • Ability to set and meet deadlines
    • Familiar with end-to-end Supply Chain processes
