Danfoss Procurement is looking for an experienced and self-driven Regional Category Manager with a strategic mindset to join our team within the Steel & Iron Casting category. Our ambition is to support the Danfoss growth journey by providing strategic procurement business insights to our matrix procurement colleagues and businesses.

As our new Regional Category Manager, you will develop and implement the Category strategy for Steel & Iron Casting across the NAM region while developing strong relations with key internal and external stakeholders. You will be entrusted with the responsibility for managing a selected and small number of high spend suppliers that has high attention from Danfoss top management.

You will be located in Ames/Iowa or Eden Prairie in Minneapolis/Minnesota

and should expect 10-30 days of business travel per year (mainly to our key suppliers and stakeholders)

Job Responsibilities

This position will give you an exciting growth opportunity as you take on the challenge and define, implement, lead and coordinate category strategy activities in NAM. Among this, you will also: 

  • Accelerate cost-down impact from suppliers driving and executing a sustainable savings pipeline across all levers while utilizing cross-functional teams
  • Develop and implement supplier strategy for all suppliers within responsibility
  • Actively research trends within technology incl. how other industries impact the sub-category e.g. 3-D printing, supply, pricing, investments etc.
  • Take full and proactive responsibility for supplier performance 
  • Lead an effective supplier relationship management acting as the Danfoss key account and supplier development activities
  • Understand Danfoss business needs and the commodity market impacts

The ideal candidate possesses these skills. 

  • To be considered for this role, you should have substantial category management experience within a Mechanical Engineering category.  We imagine that you hold a Commercial degree or a degree within Mechanical Engineering at Master’s or Bachelor’s level, and based on your professional experience you have gained knowledge within the mechanical field topped with solid commercial understanding. More importantly, you should have solid direct category management experience from an international company – ideally managing high spend suppliers.

  • You have business talent and a personal drive, combined with a strong appetite for keeping momentum on strategic development of your category. Moreover, you look for new ways of managing multiple suppliers and stakeholders, using your diplomatic, negotiation and networking skills without losing people on the way. 

  • We’d love to see that you can also add value with your ability to navigate safely in complex relations, while working both independently and within cross-functional teams. Last but not least, the successful candidate will show proactivity and a can-do attitude with high commitment to results and people relations.
