Job Description

The role of the Data Center Business Development Manager (BDM) for North America is to contribute to developing the business of our climate-friendly solutions and technologies in Canada and USA. The position requires a fair amount of data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure expertise and relevant market knowledge to effectively generate leads and convert them to sales.

The role of the BDM is to help develop our data center business through networking, building relationships, identifying projects, and closing business opportunities with Regional Sales teams across Danfoss’ three Segments and multiple business areas (Cooling, Heating, Fluid Conveyance, Drives, Electrification, and Fire Safety).  The objective of the BDM is to become the regional expert, while supporting project information-sharing and lead-generation across the NAM Region, acting as “One Danfoss” to build relationships and influence.

This is a remote position for someone residing in the Midwest/West Coast region of the United States.

Job Responsibilities

•    Identify business opportunities worldwide, with particular focus in NAM.
•    Participate in the development of the relevant business plan in alignment with senior management.
•    Formulate and implement sales and marketing strategy to achieve business objectives.
•    Responsible for generating and evaluating new leads and initiating contact.
•    Collaborate with the Regional Data Center Business Development Director and Regional Sales team-members, required to retain existing and win new business.
•    Join and be an active member of the Danfoss’ data center community to improve our understanding of the vertical, to promote and execute the Digital Infrastructure strategy.
•    Subscribe to and participate in select industry trade associations, expositions, conferences, and symposia. Leverage these associations for networking and relationship-building to improve influence and raise Danfoss brand awareness. 
•    Propose case studies and engage with MarCom to generate relevant content. Is “the voice of the Data Centers for the Region” for New Product Development, Product Management, and Segment Marketing. 
•    Collect market intelligence, interpret, and analyze customers’ requirements in detail and prepare overview for management and engineering teams.
•    Validate requirements and specification details with bid owner and/or customer.
•    Support with design and engineer customer solution documents.
•    Drive post-bid process to identify reason of win/loss and define actions.
•    Create and maintain a tender database with frequently asked requirements to improve response times.

Background & Skills

The ideal candidate possess these skills:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Computer) or relevant business-related disciplines (Marketing or Economics) to allow technical business development.
•    Minimum 2 years of mechanical, electrical or tech design engineering or sales experience, with emphasis on data center infrastructure, or even specifically in data center cooling and electronics thermal management.
•    Building deep relationships through interpersonal communication with strong active listening skills and ability to build trust.
•    Adept at communicating with different types of people from various backgrounds while maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor.
•    Basic understanding of pricing different components, market pricing levels, commercial agreements and terms and conditions of sale.
•    Proven project management skills and multitasking experience in fast-moving, multi-cultural, data center or electronics industry (plus)
•    Public speaking and presentation skills are critical to convey accuracy and confidence
•    Organized and systematic, but also ready and willing to handle fluid situations that occur in business professionally and effectively.
•    Ability to handle resistance and never give up in the face of competition
•    Attention to detail is needed to discern potential customer-specific needs and wants and to maintain a high level of service and consistent communication.
