Electronics Design and Development Engineer

Requisition ID:  26852
Job Location(s):

Edinburgh, GB

Job Description

Danfoss Power Solutions are proud to be at the forefront of driving a global transformation in digital and electric solutions that increase productivity and energy efficiency.  We are truly passionate about investment, and innovation, as we continue to support our customers' journey towards a greener and lower-carbon future.  To support our ongoing growth and development we are now seeking to strengthen and our capabilities in Edinburgh ahead of our upcoming move to our brand new low-carbon innovation centre at Shawfair Business Park by adding an Electronics Design and Development Engineer to our Digital Displacement business.

You would be part of the Controller Hardware Team which develops controllers for Digital Displacement, and you would be designing with production intent in mind.

Currently we are working on a new design which will need Design and Validation Testing of the prototype and then progression to manufacturing. Ongoing testing will include for example: environmental, EMC/EMI, and reliability, and will also include specific customer test specifications when required. The controllers are designed for off-highway use and are required to operate in harsh environments. Designing tests and methods for validation and subsequent analysis of data gathered from this process would initially be a significant part of the job, but would then lead into applying lessons learned into refining the controller, and for applying to new, related products into the future.

Our controllers are a mixture of digital and analogue circuitry, including precision sensor inputs, solenoid drivers, switch mode power supplies, microprocessor and FPGA parts and other support circuitry.

This job is based in Edinburgh, at our Loanhead site (EH20 9TB).  We are a small close-knit team, and have a strong collaborative environment. Work can generally be a mixture of on-site and work from home, based on project demands.

Job Responsibilities

The Electronics Design and Development Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Circuit design and analysis, analogue and digital
  • Design Test plans for controller, including stress and limit testing, eg: HALT
  • Validation of circuit performance
  • Document and report writing relevant to product development
  • ECAD design (OrCAD)
  • New design development and FMEA planning
  • Other electronics engineering tasks as required

Background & Skills

You would likely have an Electronics Engineering degree or equivalent, with a good all-round knowledge of electronics, and relevant experience with testing and methodologies. It would be expected you are comfortable to operate in a lab and be able to use test equipment effectively.

Automotive or similar test experience would be especially well regarded, as would experience with designing and testing for EMC/EMI compliance.

A genuine interest in electronics with a practical knowledge, combined with attention to detail, and an appreciation of electro-mechanical control would be well regarded. There is no defined experience level required, but we are looking for someone who can integrate quickly and effectively into the team and contribute their skillset.
