Job Description

Danfoss Power Solutions is in the search of a PhD student to join our team in Edinburgh, GB. Your PhD will be in collaboration with the University of Bath and focus on noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics of our pumps and how to improve through design. You will be part of the Mechanical R&D team which mainly focuses on core technology research and concept and prototype development of new DD pumps and motors.  

This PhD program is a professional 3.5-year degree that combines the scientific research of a PhD with the business skills needed to thrive in a competitive workplace. Your daily working place will be mainly in Danfoss Power Solutions in Edinburgh.

Job Responsibilities

As PhD student, your daily tasks consist of the following:  

  • Acoustic measurements of our pumps in our test lab
  • Data processing and analysis of data from tests collected in our labs
  • Design and commissioning of test setups needed for certain experiments
  • Mathematical modelling of acoustic characteristics
  • Design of mechanical components (in CAD) which mitigates NVH
  • Procure prototype components and liaise with suppliers

 

Through this programme you will become an expert on NVH in a new, exciting and growing technology and you will achieve a PhD degree from the University of Bath.
 

Background & Skills

Essential:

  • Master degree within relevant study program
  • Expertise in CAD software (NX preferred) 
  • Experience with data processing and modelling
  • Strong background in communication 
  • IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) 

 

Desirable:

  • Practical experience in test labs
  • Previous experience in NVH
  • Previous experience in Hydraulic products or rotating machinery
