Job Description

Danfoss in Tallahassee, FL is searching for candidates interested in the CNC Machining Intern program, an opportunity to complete a Pre-Apprenticeship course at Tallahassee Community College that will lead directly into a 3 month internship. This position works under the direction of experienced machinists to learn the trade of CNC machining. Upon completion of the intern program, the candidate could be promoted into a CNC Trainee position. In this role, the CNC Intern will understand internal measurement processes while gaining hands-on experience in our machining department. The Pre-Apprenticeship course is at no cost to candidates selected for the program.

Job Responsibilities

Upon completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship course, job responsibilities for this position include the following. 

  • Follows written instructions in the form of Standard Operating Procedures. Also follows verbal instructions from experienced co-workers, team leaders, and supervisors
  • Aiding in stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Gain knowledge of programs/editing: Zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Observe setup and tooling replacement of lathes in designated cell locations.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, and calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Commitment to the 15 week Pre-Apprenticeship course at Tallahassee Community College beginning February 2023. Classes will be held in the evening, 3 times per week.
  • Candidate should be located within the Tallahassee, FL area as relocation is not offered for this role.
