Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible and accountable for supporting existing and future manufacturing operations, and for managing successful completion of key development and process improvement projects for the factory production processes. Provides technical consulting in manufacturing process to improve production efficiencies and cost reductions. This position will lead a team of engineers that directly support the factory to achieve its targets for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Responsible for the planning, organizing and directing the technical activities and resources of the department and vendors. Serves as a key member of the Tallahassee Factory Leadership team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and directs the daily activities of multiple departmental functions. Oversees, monitors and coordinates team's activities. Acts as a liaison and coach to team members and the rest of the organization
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators
  • Direct staff in developing manufacturing processes to improve efficiencies to seek reduction of existing production costs
  • Deliver direction on projects to ensure that safety is an integral part of the design and implementation of projects. Conduct safety meetings for the department
  • Provides personnel, technical, and training support to process and production engineers for project design and management, new equipment acquisition, materials acquisition and process changes
  • Developing engineering documentation, including project plans, timelines/schedules, drawings, reports, SOPs, quality requirements, process control specifications, and line balances
  • Assists in analyzing and planning work force utilization, space requirements, workflow and layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Makes recommendations and is responsible for project management/implementation of new product process development and process improvement activities 
  • Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures including LEAN manufacturing based on TPS
  • Supports all operational improvement initiatives and provides training for all projects or initiatives
  • Prepares capital equipment requests with complete justification and analysis
  • Development and implementation of strategies to support Danfoss’s 3-5 years Strategic Plans

Background & Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering
  • 10+ yrs of project/manufacturing engineering in industrial facilities.
  • Min 5 yrs of Leadership exp. to include establishment of goals & adherence to performance expectations.
  • Exp. w/project engineering with machine design of unique manufacturing equipment or components, investigation of commercial equipment and components, selection for purchase and integration/assembly of custom equipment, installation and startup of equipment.
  • Project/Process engineering exp. w/manufacturing
  • Knowledge of PLC & CNC programming for machine control
  • Familiar w/CAD/CAM & MS software products, in addition to industrial electrical systems.
  • Flexibility & willingness to work the hours to support a multi-shift operation in executing growth strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA/MS Engineering
  • Bkgd in CNC Machining or aerospace industry
  • Proficient in Proj Mgmt Methods – MS Project, M-gate process
  • Proven success in making improvements to processes, tools, and culture for managing projects
