Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Develops target costs for new product proposals and design changes for existing products, and collaborates with design and manufacturing engineers to achieve desired cost objectives and provide cost alternatives.  
  • Duties: develop cost contingency models; differentiate what material and manufacturing process should be used as an alternate vs current design; interact with engineering organization to understand key priorities of projects and technologies; provide project teams with cost tracking to established target cost throughout product development cycle; work with stakeholders to support assessment of the capability of the proposed end-to-end supply chain; encourage suppliers to deploy factory concepts and standards; provide engineering/manufacturing with project/product cost data; share calculations knowledge and data with the global members of value management; support project teams to identify cost driver in an early phase of the APQP process (design to cost); identify cost saving opportunities to support the purchasing organization; manage the Supply Chain Product development VA/VE activities throughout the complete value stream; initiate cost workshops at the supplier aligned with commodity manager and program buyer; analyze supplier cost break downs to support the buyers and commodity managers in the negotiation; support purchasing and engineering in cost workshops with customers; create should cost models to drive technical discussion between supply chain and supplier to drive cost optimized projects

Background & Skills

The ideal candidate possesses these skills. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace) plus 5 years experience as Cost Analyst, Cost Calculator, or Cost Controller
  • In lieu of bachelor’s degree plus 5 years experience, Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace) plus 3 years experience as Cost Analyst, Cost Calculator, or Cost Controller
  • 1 year experience with value management
  • Experience may be gained concurrently
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization
