Senior Chemical Engineer - Metal Finishing

Job Description

Responsible for process compliance of current state and driving improvement of the future state within Metal Finishing operations which includes plating, passivation, anodizing, degreasing, annealing, and waste treatment. Responsible for leading/supporting in a teaming environment. Engineering responsibilities include the following activities: safety, cost reduction/cost out projects, product cost estimating, developing and maintaining production standards, standard work, assist in the coordination of the capital spending program, ensuring the accuracy of routings within ERP system, and assisting in new product launch during and after implementation.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following. 

  • Leading current chemical process and process improvements within Metal Finishing.
  • Lead cost reduction projects, value analysis, and economic programs in order to reduce labor and burden costs.
  • Own, prepare and maintain all production standard work and production documentation, conduct regular standard work checks.
  • Use Lean System / Continuous Improvement Framework Tool in order to drive continuous improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve plant/work cell layouts.
  • Ensure that process improvements are accurately reflected in product costs and labor and material standards.  Participate in ergonomics team meetings with the goal of identifying and eliminating ergonomics risks.
  • Evaluate customer returns for root cause and corrective actions, utilizing formal problem-solving tools such as 8D analysis, PFMEA's, Control plans, etc., and being able to tie this analysis back to operations standard work and product documentation.
  • Mentor technicians.
  • Ensure processes meet Environmental, Safety, and Health (MESH) & regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes manufacturing data, identifying adverse conditions, and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Research, recommend, and execute capital equipment projects.

Background & Skills

Required (basic) qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge involving plating, anodize, powder coating, chemical cleaning operations, or similar chemical experience
  • Knowledge and application of problem-solving tools and methodologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, excellent written and oral communication skills, lean tools, organizational skills, project management, and attention to detail.

 

Job Criteria:

  • Proficiency with various computer software and applications such as CAD/CAM, Excel, Word, MS Project, Minitab
  • Ability to lead teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, process reliability experience, process improvement, large capital project work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail

 

Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship, both now and in the future.
