Job Description
Job Title:  Aero-Thermal Engineer Intern
Req ID:  49203
Job Location (Short):  Tallahassee, FL, USA
Employment Type:  Part Time
Segment:  Danfoss Climate Solutions Segment
Job Category:  R&D, Technology and Engineering
Work Location Type:  On-site

The Impact You'll Make

As an Aero‑Thermal Engineer Intern, you’ll help advance the performance and efficiency of next‑generation turbomachinery. Your work will directly influence how compressor concepts turn into real, high‑performing products.

You’ll use high‑fidelity simulation, physics‑based modeling, and data‑driven analysis to shape design decisions early—where they matter most. By connecting simulation results with test data, you’ll help improve accuracy, confidence, and sustainability in our engineering solutions.

Working alongside experienced engineers, data specialists, and fellow interns, you’ll contribute to meaningful R&D projects that strengthen our aero‑thermal capabilities and support smarter energy systems.

This is an on-site position based in Tallahassee, FL. However, we are open to considering remote candidates with the right experience and qualifications.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build aerodynamic and air‑solid models from compressor concepts to support rapid design iteration

  • Run high‑fidelity CFD simulations to evaluate performance and understand complex flow behavior

  • Compare simulation results with laboratory test data to validate and refine designs

  • Use Python or MATLAB, including AI/ML approaches, to analyze results and enable data‑driven insights

  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team on simulation tasks and broader R&D assignments

What We're Looking For

  • Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Turbomachinery, or a related field (final‑year Bachelor’s students will also be considered)

  • Hands‑on experience or coursework in CFD using tools such as ANSYS, CFX, or Fluent, plus basic CAD modeling

  • Working knowledge of Python or MATLAB and interest in applying AI or machine learning to engineering problems

  • Solid foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer

  • Ability to work 20 hours per week and collaborate effectively in an onsite or remote environment

What You'll Get from Us

  • We promote from within and support your learning with mentoring, training, and
    access to global opportunities.

  • You’ll have flexibility, autonomy, and support to do your best work while maintaining
a healthy work-life balance. Your well-being matters to us.

  • We strive to create an inclusive work environment where people of all backgrounds
are respected and valued for who they are.

For this US-based internship, you can expect:

  • A paid internship with competitive hourly compensation

  • Hands-on mentorship from experienced engineers

  • Exposure to global Danfoss engineering projects and career pathways
