Job Description

Danfoss is searching for a Sr. Tribology Engineer to join their global team. The Sr. Tribology Engineer will drive technical solutions for all Hydrostatic products relation to tribology, fluids, and engineered surface textures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical consultant primarily with respect to the area of tribology including, but not limited to:
    • Tribological failure analyses,
    • Hydraulic fluids analyses,
    • Surface texture description (2D-type, at minimum), and
    • Selection of (wear-resistant/chemically compatible) materials and processes
  • Contribute towards materials-related R&D projects to improve component durability and efficiency
  • Act as the global “go-to” person assisting functional areas such as Engineering, Quality, Sales & Marketing (Applications Eng.), and Operations
  • Provide technical coaching/mentoring of other TME Tribology (and Materials) Engineers
  • Creation & maintenance of tribology-related trainings (face-to-face, online/video trainings, webcasts, documents)
  • Build technical report documentation and communication of results, leading to identification of root cause(s) and/or contributing factors

Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master's level preferred) in the field of Materials Science, or Materials, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, with special focus on Tribology strongly preferred
  • 5+ years (3+ with Master's) of experience in the field of Tribology and/or related Materials/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering in an applied/industrial environment
  • Strong ability to logically combine and synthesize pieces of information to systematically arrive at a conclusion (critical thinking & problem-solving ability)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong ability (and desire) to work in a virtual environment of a global expert team and work cross-culturally
  • Strong ability to navigate a matrix organization to accomplish complex tasks achieving actionable results
  • Customer Service mindset, ability to occasionally negotiate scope of work with internal colleagues requesting open-ended, ambiguous consultancy requests
  • Strong bias towards a practical (rather than theoretical) approach to engineering challenges
  • Awareness (hands-on experience preferred) of state-of-the-art Materials Science and Tribological testing methods and analytical tools/processes/procedures (and their associated limitations)
  • Willingness to travel internationally (less than 10%)
