Job Description

 

The Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for managing Import-Export department - assisting the company achieving its cost and service goals by managing all aspects of import-export transactions for both raw materials and finished product. This position promotes compliance with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other governmental agency regulations and provides expertise on the most expeditious and cost-effective method of shipping domestically and internationally.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Represents the company to CBP. Responds to CBP requests for information regarding import transactions.
  • Maintains formal, company-wide import-export policies, procedures, controls.
  • Maintains company-wide Export Management System, ensuring compliance with U.S. export regulations.
  • Updates import-export compliance manuals - standard operating procedures regulations.
  • Performs audits to evaluate compliance levels and effectiveness of procedures, policies, controls.
  • Identifies opportunities to secure duty refunds and take advantage of duty- saving programs.
  • Educates departments on customs compliance - presentations, procedures, memos, conversations.
  • Participates in new product management groups, identifying import-export requirements early in the product development process.
  • Leverage international free trade agreements benefiting the organization.
  • Manages NAFTA/USMCA compliance program to ensure compliance.
  • Continuously improving import-export and logistics processes.
  • Monitors regulatory and international changes. Applies then uses written and verbal communication to convey.
  • Maintains relationships with external customs counsel and customs brokers.
  • Manages Import-Export Department and maintains costs within budget.
  • Some travel among other corporate locations is required.

Background & Skills

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • 8+ years industry experience at a customs brokerage or medium to large importer/exporter, or combination of the above, with emphasis on customs compliance.
  • 3+ years of supervisory / management experience.
  • Customs broker license
  • Must be eligible to work in the US, both now and in the future, without sponsorship
