We’re looking for a Customs Operations Supervisor to ensure the smooth, compliant, and efficient flow of goods across borders. What You’ll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Lead customs operations, resolving complex issues beyond the scope of transportation and trade compliance teams.
- Serve as the main liaison between transportation, logistics, brokers, and trade compliance partners to ensure compliant shipment flows.
- Monitor import/export clearance processes to meet U.S. and international regulations.
- Implement corrective actions to maintain accuracy in all customs declarations.
- Supervise and develop a team of customs analysts, fostering an inclusive, high‑performance culture.
Daily Activities
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with customs brokers, logistics providers, authorities, and internal teams to manage compliant freight flows.
- Identify operational issues, analyze root causes, and implement process improvements.
- Review and oversee customs documentation, bonded shipments, and entry processes.
- Investigate and resolve operational challenges affecting freight flows, working closely with transportation and trade compliance teams.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and share updates with relevant stakeholders.
- Coach and support analysts through feedback and daily problem‑solving.
Success Indicators
You will be successful when you:
- Ensure consistent compliance across all import/export transactions.
- Minimize operational delays by swiftly resolving customs‑related issues.
- Maintain high accuracy in customs entries, audits, and post‑entry corrections.
- Elevate team performance through clear expectations, strong coaching, and accountability.
- Drive process improvements through proactive gap identification and data‑driven solutions.
Collaboration
You will work closely with:
- Transportation and trade compliance teams.
- External customs brokers, logistics providers, and government authorities.
- Internal partners across supply chain, operations, and regulatory functions.
- Your team of customs analysts, providing mentorship and guidance.
What We're Looking For
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in customs brokerage, import operations, or related roles.
- Expertise in customs entry preparation, validation, and filing.
- Skilled in reviewing import/export documentation (invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin).
- In‑depth knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, bonded processes, HTS classification, Incoterms, and trade documentation.
- Experience with SAP GTS, Descartes, or similar customs/ERP systems; advanced Excel proficiency.
- Strong understanding of customs laws, FTAs, Section 232s, Duty Drawback, and AD/CVDs.
- Analytical skills for audits, post‑entry corrections, and compliance reviews.
- Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- U.S. Customs Brokerage License or Certified Customs Specialist Certificate strongly preferred.
Salary Range Disclaimer: The base salary range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. The range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000.
