The Impact You'll Make
The Project Engineer is responsible for leading cross-functional projects to launch new products, provide production support, and drive process improvements to enhance Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. This role will lead capital projects and have responsibility for processes involving automated/semi-automated lines and MES systems for both assembly lines and test stands. Key activities include performing production releases (including PPAPs) for new product launches, using root-cause problem-solving techniques to improve First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce scrap, and applying lean manufacturing tools to boost productivity. This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Production Support & Process Improvement:
- Provide daily troubleshooting and support to the shop floor, using advanced quality tools to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Lead special projects focused on overcoming manufacturing problems, applying lean manufacturing concepts to enhance efficiency and output.
- Use interdisciplinary tools such as 8D Problem Solving and Value Stream Mapping to find and implement cost-effective solutions.
- New Product Introduction & Launch:
- Champion the release-to-production process for new products, including performing Production Part Approval Processes (PPAPs).
- Lead the Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM&A) process to ensure new designs are optimized for production.
- Develop and manage project schedules, coordinating with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure a smooth launch.
- Process Engineering & Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain essential documentation such as standard work, process flow diagrams, time studies, Process FMEAs, capability studies, and control plans.
- Determine the optimal sequence of operations needed to meet manufacturing, quality, and cost targets.
- Specify, develop, and implement the tooling, equipment, and automation necessary to manufacture products effectively.
- Capital Project Management:
- Identify capital equipment requirements and prepare Return on Investment (ROI) calculations to justify expenditures.
- Create annual capital budgets, manage investment projects from conception to completion, and monitor spending against the plan.
- Supplier & Quality Management:
- Work with Procurement to ensure supplier processes and parts are sufficiently qualified for a smooth launch into Danfoss manufacturing.
- Facilitate the implementation of new process developments and equipment purchases in collaboration with internal teams.
