Quality Inspector / 2nd Shift

Job Description
Under minimal supervision, performs inspection duties related to all processes associated with receiving, fabricating, machining, assembling and shipping materials, partially completed materials, sub-assemblies and/or finished parts and products to customers. Performs a variety of inspections using all types of manual, automated, electronic and computer coordinate measuring devises and records data for traceability. Calibrates, adjusts and releases gauges and precision measuring instruments for use in the manufacturing processes. Checks product and parts being fabricated and assembled for shipment to customers and maintains quality and inspection records in accordance with management prescribed procedures. Assist in training and instruction of employees assigned to perform inspection work, as well as operators in proper measuring and gauging techniques.
Job Responsibilities
- Verify and document all internal processes associated with manufacturing products (procurement through shipment) in accordance with written standard procedures currently in existence and those deemed necessary in the future.
- Record, analyze and make recommendations for correction of non-conforming materials, products and processes in accordance with standard procedures.
- Inspects and makes dimensional and a variety of other quality checks on all incoming, in-process and finished material from suppliers, contractors and/or product produced internally, in accordance with written standard procedures, and maintains accurate records indicating acceptance or rejection.
- Performs production layout and assists operators in layout, as required.
- Inspects, sets, adjusts, maintains and performs minor repairs and adjustments on gauges, jigs, fixtures, templates, special tools, patterns and other equipment requiring close tolerances used in production, assembly and inspection of materials, parts, and products.
- Performs any of the necessary functions of the unit including receiving duties, and operation of overhead cranes and hand trucks.
- Verify operator set-ups and first piece production for accuracy, when required.
- Inspect and disposition returned material from customers.
- Processes, enters and maintains all receiving documents and supported paperwork into electronic data base, including customer’s returned material and other related documents.
- Assists in setting up and training employees in statistical techniques, continuous improvement methods and total quality management systems.
- Performs calibrations on all types of gauges in accordance with current calibration and recall procedures.
- Follow and enforce all relevant ISO procedures.
Background & Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must pass the latest version of the Inspector Qualifications Assessment which includes blueprint reading, precise instrument reading, gage calibration and set up.
- Must be able to learn, interpret and apply quality measures as presented in ISO 9001 and other governing requirements relating to the shop floor environment.
- Must be able to work and make informed decisions, including material disposition, with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge or the ability to learn Dynamic Product Acceptance techniques and follow a Control Plan document on SAP.
- Must be willing to adapt and operate within a team environment.
