The Manufacturing Engineering Technician supports safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes by developing and maintaining CNC programs, manufacturing routings, work instructions, tooling requirements, and process documentation.
This position serves as a critical link between Engineering and Operations. The technician works directly with operators, supervisors, quality personnel, and engineers to troubleshoot manufacturing issues, improve processes, reduce waste, and ensure products are manufactured safely and consistently to engineering and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable working on the manufacturing floor, knowledgeable in CNC machining/programming, and able to use Lean manufacturing principles to drive measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
This is a 1st Shift position.
What You’ll Be Doing
CNC Programming and Manufacturing Support
- Develop, modify, test, and maintain CNC programs for production equipment.Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, models, and manufacturing requirements.
- Determine appropriate machining strategies, tooling, speeds, feeds, workholding, and process sequences, and support setup and prove-out of new and revised CNC programs on the manufacturing floor.
- Troubleshoot CNC machining and production issues involving tooling, programs, equipment, part quality, and process variation; optimize existing CNC programs to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, and process reliability.
- Work directly with operators to identify problems and implement sustainable solutions and assist with introduction of new products and transfer of products into production.
Router & Process Creation
- Create and maintain manufacturing routers/routings that clearly define the required sequence of operations.
- Establish appropriate manufacturing operations, work centers, setup requirements, inspection points, and standard work.
- Review existing routings for accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with actual manufacturing practices.
- Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions, setup sheets, tooling lists, and other production documentation.
- Identify gaps between documented processes and actual shop-floor practices and coordinate corrective actions.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in and lead Lean and continuous improvement activities focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Analyze cycle times, setup times, downtime, scrap, rework, and other manufacturing losses.
- Develop and implement improvements that increase throughput and equipment utilization.
- Support creation and improvement of standard work with manufacturing operators.
- Participate in Kaizen events and improvement projects.
Manufacturing & Technical Support
- Provide day-to-day technical support to manufacturing personnel and assist with root-cause investigations related to scrap, rework, production delays, and quality issues.
- Support corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist with tooling, fixture, gauge, and work holding improvements, and recommend improvements to equipment, tooling, layouts, and manufacturing methods.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years CNC machining, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering technician or related manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining processes, cutting tools, work holding, speeds, and feeds.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Comfortable working directly with CNC operators and production employees in a shop-floor environment.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience programming multiple CNC equipment types.
- Knowledge of G-code and M-code.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing routing structures.
- GD&T knowledge.
- Experience developing standard work and conducting time studies.
- Experience participating in or leading Kaizen events.
- Experience in a high-mix or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
