Job Description

Danfoss, a global leader in AC Motor Drives, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Test Engineer to join the Danfoss Drives Medium Voltage Research and Development team in the Research Triangle Park, NC.

As a member of a cross-functional product development team, the Electrical Test Engineer is responsible for creating test plans, test strategies, and the design and development of verification tests.  Additional responsibilities include researching and recommending new test processes, technology, and tools for testing of future products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Product, sub-system and PCBA validation testing (Up to 4160VAC +6MW power converters)
  • Test setup creation including instrumentation and electrical/mechanical assemblies
  • Power module (IGBT + Diode) double pulse and short circuit testing
  • Root cause analysis of power electronic components and systems
  • PCBA troubleshooting and repair including soldering
  • Basic electrical wiring changes, electrical test fixture creation
  • PLC operation and Labview experience (seen as beneficial)
  • Compiling and organizing technical data and prepare reports on project assignments
  • Organization and management of laboratory instrumentation and work areas
  • Occasional travel to testing facilities and to assist with customer installation and troubleshooting

Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with outstanding and demonstrated ability
  • 2-5 years’ experience in product development or test lab environment is required
  • Proficiency in using test equipment, e.g. oscilloscopes, function generators & data acquisition systems
  • Proficient electrical and electronics knowledge
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic diagrams, one-lines and schematics
  • Familiarity with AC drives and power electronics (IGBT's, diodes, Mosfets), medium voltage knowledge is an asset
  • Must be able to function well in a team or group environment.
  • Knowledge on electrical safety standards e.g. NFPA 70E, NFPA 70(NEC)
  • Knowledge of MS office tools, e.g. Outlook, Excel and Word
