Manufacturing Engineering Manager

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager plans, organizes and manages the plant’s manufacturing and process engineering function for the Eden Prairie Manufacturing Plant.  This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.  Other key responsibilities for this role is building organizational capability, providing direction for new product launches, productivity, and reduction of overall product cost, while meeting product schedules.
     
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
     

  • The Engineering Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and managing the Manufacturing Engineering department.
  • Supervise, guide, direct, and develop Engineering team. Define competencies required for successful performance and ensures that employees receive appropriate motivation, recognition and training development opportunities for continuing career growth.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement approved capital projects to support the company's strategy and goals. Monitor capital expenditures in order to insure control within budgetary limitations.
  • Leads decision-making involving new and existing product lines to assess equipment and capacity needs. Identify and plan for new equipment.
  • Supervise product, plant and manufacturing engineering projects and initiatives with regard to feasibility, cost, and timeliness. Reviews project plans using project management techniques to ensure adherence to sound project management criteria.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment conducive to continuous improvement in manufacturing; recommends alternatives for improving production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. Identifies and assesses new technology areas for development. Considers alternative approaches that might be required to adapt to changing technology or organizational demands.
  • Serve as an active member of the Plant Leadership team, fulfilling leadership duties and providing input for strategy, direction & continuous improvement by leveraging lean tools, Danfoss Business System and Danfoss leadership model.

     
Required (basic) qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 1+ years of experience directly managing people
     

Preferred qualifications 

  • 7 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment with 3 years in CNC manufacturing/precision metal machining (milling, grinding, etc)
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing people
  • CI/Lean certification
