Job Description
Req ID:  51507
Job Location:  Sofia, BG
Employment Type:  Full Time
Segment:  Danfoss Climate Solutions Segment
Job Category:  R&D, Technology and Engineering
Work Location Type:  Hybrid
Job Title:  Lead Engineer, Industrial IoT & Data Infrastructure

The Impact You'll Make

As our new Lead Engineer, Industrial IoT & Data Infrastructure, you’ll own the journey our data takes from the machine to the model — but also help define what that journey should look like in the first place.

Danfoss cooling, refrigeration, heat recovery and other industrial systems generate valuable operational data. Sometimes the data is already available but not yet connected to our platforms. Sometimes it isn’t being collected at all. You’ll be the person who sees those gaps, understands what data could unlock and finds a practical way to capture, connect and use it.

Imagine a customer running Danfoss pumps where we currently have no visibility into how those pumps perform in the field. Rather than waiting for someone to define a project around it, you might ask: What data could we get from these pumps? What would we need to connect? How could we collect it reliably? And what could we learn or improve once we have it?

Your impact? You’ll turn these questions into real technical solutions — building the connectivity, data flows and infrastructure that allow our digital twins, analytics and engineering teams to work with reliable, timely real-world data. This foundation enables better diagnostics, optimization and ultimately measurable improvements for our customers.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Identify opportunities to capture and use industrial data — working with application engineers, product teams and customers to understand where data is missing, what could be valuable and how we can technically access it.
  • Own the end-to-end industrial data acquisition architecture — from field devices and controllers using Modbus TCP/RTU and protocols such as BACnet, OPC UA or MQTT, through edge gateways to cloud ingestion.
  • Design, build and re-engineer data services, identifying bottlenecks and choosing the right technical approach — including rebuilding latency-critical components in Go, Rust, C#/.NET or another suitable compiled language when needed.
  • Shape and operate our time-series data platform, including streaming ingestion, storage, schemas, metadata, retention and access patterns for both real-time applications and offline modeling.
  • Automate and continuously improve the entire data journey through CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, testing, containerization and observability, creating solutions that are reliable, repeatable and easy to scale.

What We're Looking For

  • An engineering and problem-solving mindset — someone who naturally asks “What are we missing? What could we do differently? How could we get this data?” and then turns those questions into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong experience building production industrial IoT connectivity, including hands-on work with Modbus TCP/RTU and at least one of BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT/AMQP or a similar protocol — including debugging at protocol and network level.
  • Strong software engineering skills in a compiled, concurrency-friendly language such as Go, Rust, C#/.NET, Java or modern C++, combined with Python and the judgement to design the right solution rather than simply work around a limitation.
  • Hands-on experience with time-series data at scale and cloud data services in Azure, AWS or GCP, including streaming ingestion, time-series databases and reliable delivery to downstream consumers.
  • Strong ownership, communication and technical leadership in English, with the ability to work across engineering, data, product and business teams and turn an ambiguous problem into a clear technical direction.

What You'll Get from Us

  • The opportunity to shape how Danfoss captures and uses industrial data, with the freedom to identify new opportunities rather than only implementing predefined solutions.
  • Deep technical challenges across IoT, cloud, data and industrial systems, working with real field devices, protocols, telemetry, time-series data and digital twins.
  • A highly collaborative environment where you’ll work with data scientists, data engineers, frontend and 3D/XR developers, as well as Application Engineering, Controls, Simulation and business teams across Danfoss.
  • Real ownership and room to influence, where you can challenge existing approaches, propose new solutions, experiment with ideas and make technical decisions that have visible business and customer impact.
  • A physics-first, feedback-driven team where senior engineers are expected to share knowledge, raise the technical level of others and continuously improve how we build — plus a hybrid working model in Sofia and Danfoss benefits.
