Job Description

Danfoss is looking for a Controls Engineer to join their team in Loves Park, IL. As a member of cross-functional project teams, the Engineer – Controls is responsible for contributing to the design and development of new products.  Additional responsibilities include exploring new technologies and processes planned for future products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs, specifications, analysis and recommendations for development of new products.
  • Responsible for the development of control architectures, algorithms, and requirements for high power energy conversion systems.
  • Maintain records pertinent to each project in the form of time, sketches, drawings, specifications, etc.
  • Render technical advice and assistance to other product development personnel as to designs, specifications, information sources and testing procedures.
  • Oversee the operations involved in the construction and testing of prototype products.
  • Other duties as required. 

Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.  Advanced course work in areas relevant to product development is preferable.  
  • Knowledge of control engineering, power electronics, electric machines, power systems and embedded software development.
  • Knowledge regarding control of power conversion systems including motor control algorithms (V/Hz, High Performance Vector Control, etc) 
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English along with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. 
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. 
  • Extensive knowledge of MatLab/Simulink and Computer aided engineering design tools.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office.  
  • Basic Knowledge of reading and programming C and C++ code.  
  • Able to contribute as a member of an organized project team of engineers.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in Engineering with a focus in motor control or power electronics 
  • Experience with control of power conversion systems including power electronics and motor control algorithms.
  • Knowledge of High Performance AC motor drives
  • Knowledge of various motor types, including Induction motor, Permanent Magnet motor, and Synchronous Reluctance motor machines.
  • Knowledge of Model Based Development and embedded code generation using MathWorks tools.
  • Knowledge of SimPowerSystems and Plecs simulation software.
