Job Description

The Shipping Coordinator is responsible for shipping a wide variety of products to both internal and external customer sites in order to meet a promised arrival date. This position is also responsible for providing accurate and complete documentation on shipments and reacting to claims of freight damage. Shipments will be both Export and Domestic

Job Responsibilities

Critical Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Produces and reviews proper shipping paperwork for carriers or forwarding agents and enters correct shipment data into SAP
  • Ensures items are properly packaged for mode of shipment
  • Follows pick list to gather parts for shipment (including the use of fork or hand truck)
  • Logs shipments to allow for payment approval of freight bills
  • Files freight claims
  • Receives cross-training from Material Control Attendants as determined by supervisor
  • General assistance as required (shipping tracers, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Background & Skills

Basic Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Prior shipping experience is required
  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training
  • Experience in use of personal computers and related programs (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Experience in use of an ERP system (SAP preferred)
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees in the organization
  • Able to process and interpret export documentation
  • Able to handle multiple tasks
  • Able to function well in a team or group environment
  • Able to understand and be involved in the collection of pertinent data Other Aspects
  • Includes periodic overtime or off-shift hours to assure appropriate levels of customer service 

Physical Demands

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
