Job Description
Danfoss is seeking a Director to head its North America Income Tax Reporting & Compliance team. This position, reporting to the Head of Tax Operations West is responsible for completion of the US federal, international, and state income tax returns, sales and use tax, and all other US taxes including all related accounting for taxes, analysis and support. As Danfoss is a Danish owned group and the US has foreign subsidiaries, the Director will work in coordination with Group Tax members across the globe.
The Director also is responsible for leading in all audits of all US taxes filings, domestic tax planning and assisting in M&A issues as required.
Job Responsibilities
Day to Day Responsibilities Include:
- Review of federal, state and local income tax returns including US international forms and required elections and disclosures.
- Review and supervise the preparation of year end and quarterly U.S. IFRS Federal, foreign and state tax provisions, estimates and cash forecasts
- Review quarterly and annual U.S. international (subpart F, BEAT, GILTI, foreign tax credit) calculations
- Review indirect taxes including sales, property, franchise, and other related tax returns including the review of tax return filings.
- Lead federal, state, provincial, sales and use tax, and other related tax audits, including inquiries and notices.
- Maintain supporting calculations and documentation of earnings and profits pools, tax pools, PTEP, and U.S. tax basis for foreign subsidiaries and/or branches
- Analyze and calculate taxable distributions
- Support M&A projects, including tax due diligence and post-acquisition integration
- Provide timely assistance and support to other departments or operations on tax related matters and their potential impact
- Monitor and analyze final and proposed US tax legislation
- Identify opportunities for tax planning which may impact federal and state tax filing positions, apportionment, state tax provisions, etc. Provide US-inbound and outbound tax planning support for international operations including repatriation strategies, foreign tax credit optimization and local country tax planning opportunities
- Lead process improvement initiatives to increase overall efficiency of the North American tax process including digitization efforts
- Train, mentor and develop the North American Income Tax Team
Background & Skills
- 10-15 years of tax experience in Big 4 public accounting and/or industry
- Bachelor’s degree or higher; CPA required, Masters in Taxation preferred
- Experience in financial reporting and domestic compliance for U.S. international tax matters, including Subpart F, GILTI, foreign tax credits, and repatriation of foreign earnings
- Experience in US-inbound, Canadian income and US and Canadian indirect taxes is a plus
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to collaborate as part of and lead a team
- People management experience
- Resourcefulness and adaptability; self-motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to present and explain complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
- Proficiency with Excel; experience with Thompson Reuters, One Source, HFM, and SAP preferred
Location
Location is flexible. Depending on location, frequent travel to a Danfoss location may be required Some domestic travel to Danfoss locations is necessary and possibly one international trip a year
