The Impact You'll Make
As our Materials Engineer, you will be a go-to expert for metallurgy and materials science within our Hydrostatics division based in our Freeport, IL location. You will provide the critical technical knowledge that ensures the robustness and reliability of our products, directly impacting their performance in the field and the trust our customers place in us.
This is a hands-on role where you will see the immediate impact of your work. You will be a key partner to our Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams, solving complex challenges and driving improvements in our most critical manufacturing processes, including heat treatment and surface finishing.

What You’ll Be Doing
- You will be a technical expert on material and processing optimization, collaborating with our teams on how to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- You will take ownership of improving our manufacturing processes, including heat treatment, grinding, and finishing, to enhance product quality and consistency.
- You will conduct in-depth failure analysis on hydraulic components, using advanced metallurgical lab equipment to uncover root causes and implement effective, lasting solutions.
- You will be a key consultant in our problem-solving efforts (8D), supplier changes, and design reviews, providing the materials expertise needed to make sound technical decisions.
- You will help define the future of our material standards, contributing to projects and creating the internal specifications that guide our engineering and manufacturing teams.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience as a Materials or Metallurgical Engineer, preferably in an industrial setting that serves industries with high-quality standards.
- Deep knowledge of ferrous alloys, heat treatment, and related manufacturing processes, with a strong understanding of their effects on material properties.
- Hands-on experience with metallurgical lab equipment for failure analysis and material characterization (e.g., microscopy, hardness testing, spectrometry).
- A practical, problem-solving mindset and the ability to work collaboratively across different engineering and operational teams.
