Job Description

The Service Engineer will be responsible for carrying out system commissioning, maintenance, service, and training activities to support the Indian Navy's (IN) vessels. The role includes external maintenance in line with IN and Fire Safety standards and requirements. The engineer will collaborate closely with the Service Manager, Indian Navy’s maintenance teams, ship's crew, and Danfoss Fire Safety staff to enhance and ensure high-quality maintenance services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Service Manager and the Indian Navy’s Maintenance Manager in commissioning, system service, and maintenance activities for IN vessels. This includes both water mist and AFFF fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of maintenance activities, following established protocols and systems to maintain up-to-date maintenance logs and schedules.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Indian Navy’s maintenance teams and ship’s crew, ensuring efficient support and resolving technical issues as required.
  • Provide training to shipyard teams on good plumbing practices, reading electrical drawings, and system troubleshooting. Conduct hands-on sessions to ensure the correct operation and maintenance of fire safety systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and instrumentation-related issues to minimize downtime and ensure the safe operation of fire safety systems onboard vessels.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and ensure compliance with both Indian Navy and Danfoss Fire Safety guidelines. Ensure that security clearance protocols are followed.

Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/ mechanical engineering/ automation engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in automation preferably in naval environments. Proven experience with fire suppression systems, or similar technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire safety systems, including Water Mist Fire Safety systems or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in a defense-related naval industry, with hands-on knowledge of vessel maintenance practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and instrumentation systems, including guiding teams in shipyard environments.
  • Ability to independently manage ship maintenance and docking periods.
  • Effective communication skills with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to manage complex maintenance activities on naval platforms.
  • Display positive team morale, promoting a collaborative environment.

  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with the Indian Navy and internal teams.
