Danfoss in Shawnee has an opening for a 2nd shift Heat Treat Technician. The hours for this position are Monday – Friday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm with the potential for overtime.

The Heat Treat Technician performs all heat treat operations in a safe and regulatory compliant manner including loading/unloading parts, entering, and monitoring programs and systems, and routine maintenance on furnaces and equipment.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform procedures necessary to ensure compliance with the Safety Process and ensure the personal safety of the incumbent and others including eye safety, hearing conservation, machine safety guarding, ergonomic movement, lock out/tag out, and MSDS procedures, and OHSA regulations. *
  • Assist in maintaining an atmosphere of continuous improvement and team efforts for accomplishing departmental and plant goals.
  • Perform routine furnace maintenance such as monitoring the flow meters, checking the rear chain guide monthly and oiling as needed, and cleaning the sample line unit. Operators must reference the applicable provisional standards.
  • Conduct proper start-up and shut down of carburizing furnaces, temper ovens and endothermic generators including burn out of furnaces / generators when necessary. *
  • Utilize work instructions to maintain a working knowledge of furnace operation. *
  • Monitor and plan efficient part flow through heat treat area, including the loading and unloading of equipment and adhering to kanban rules. *
  • Enter programs / recipes into the computer / furnace controllers as needed, monitor recipe processes, and make adjustments as necessary. *
  • Monitor and verify IR system is running correctly and matches setpoints in program / recipe.
  • Process loads through the shot blast equipment. *
  • Check parts with spline gauge following complete heat treat process; quarantine loads that are out of tolerance. *
  • Accurately perform necessary paperwork daily, including department paperwork, scrap reporting, timecard submission, move ticket, etc.*
  • Perform housekeeping duties on each shift along with provisional standards meeting 5-S requirements.
  • Perform tasks as necessary to meet other requirements, i.e. set-up reduction, CFM, error proofing, standard work, etc.*
  • Meet production standards as communicated by supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

The ideal candidate possesses these skills: 

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of production experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated basic computer data entry skills such as using timecard entry system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Prior history of satisfactory operation of mechanized material handling devices such as fork truck and scissor lift and/or willingness and ability to complete and pass training/licensing course within first week in this classification
  • A satisfactory record of recent job performance (for internal candidates, satisfactory performance would be indicated by a rating of 3 or higher in all areas of performance on the most recent evaluation including attendance).
  • Ability to read, understand and effectively apply information contained in all applicable documents such as operating instructions, dimensional sheets and/or blueprints.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and any shift as needed.
  • Ability to work in an environment with temperatures varying from 40 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to push, pull, and/or drag furnace loads (on roller carts) weighing up to 1300 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, sit and/or walk on a hard surface as well as bend, stoop, reach and use ladder up to 8 hours a day, occasionally up to 12 hours per day. 
  • Ability to lift and/or carry baskets of parts occasionally weighing up to 75 pounds. 
  • Vision to accurately read all necessary production documents and computer monitor screens.
