Job Description

Danfoss in Tallahassee, FL is searching for a CNC Programming Technician to join their team. This position is a technical resource for Machining and Fixturing processes in our factory. The role supports the daily activities in the factory that drive safety, quality, productivity, and delivery. The role also is responsible for ensuring the success of the CNC operators on the production floor, as well as, support for product introduction, and R&D. An experienced manufacturing technician who can demonstrate the responsibilities of a strong CNC programmer and can study organizational facilities and machineries; troubleshooting when the machines breakdown; providing training to new manufacturing staff; advising the engineering personnel; offering advice to the management on technical advancements; preparing documents and reports regarding the use of technology; coordinating with managers from engineering and other departments; participating in health and safety policies formulation; promoting technological know-how in the organization and performing various other tasks assigned by the manufacturing supervisor.  

Job Responsibilities

  • This position will provide direct support for: CNC technicians and assembly personnel; Manufacturing Engineers; Manufacturing Supervisors; Manufacturing Technical Services / Plant Maintenance
  • Troubleshoots CNC equipment and supports equipment uptime (OEE).
  • Improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency
  • Drive process improvements by doing time studies, implementing cycle time reductions, etc.
  • Utilize Mastercam to design and program for a variety of CNC mills and lathes
  • Proof programs by remaining hands on with CNC machines
  • Determine optimal tooling and gauging requirements
  • Design fixturing and custom tooling
  • Assist with New Product Developments (NPD's) from cradle to grave
  • Prepare detailed work instructions related to process such as set up, tooling, and inspections
  • Collaborate with programmers, operators, and machinists to ensure quality and satisfaction of requirements
  • Training for operators in new processes. Aids in the development of training plans
  • Takes initiative to research better machining methods to improve job efficiencies
  • Communication and transfer of knowledge – ability to teach and train
  • Use problem-solving tools (such as 8D and 5Whys) to reduce quality defects and improve throughput.
  • Develops improvements for scrap elimination. Actively participates on scrap/rework teams.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned

Background & Skills

  • 5-10 years of experience in machining. Tool & Die background would be considered a plus.
  • Post-secondary education in technical institution, engineering college, or vocational center is strongly preferred. A solid work history in the field could be considered in lieu of education.
  • CNC Programming a must, 3+ years of experience is desirable
  • Background in CNC machining and setup
  • At least 5 years of experience in an industrial / manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
