Job Description
Job Title:  Thermal Simulation Intern
Req ID:  48151
Job Location (Short):  Tallahassee, FL, USA
Employment Type:  Part Time
Segment:  Danfoss Climate Solutions Segment
Job Category:  R&D, Technology and Engineering
Work Location Type:  On-site

The Impact You'll Make

As a Thermal Simulation Engineering Intern, you’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of high‑performance centrifugal compressors. Your work will directly support engineering decisions that influence product efficiency, reliability, and innovation.

You’ll turn complex mechanical and aerodynamic theory into real insights by modeling air flows, predicting performance, and comparing results with physical tests. Your simulations will help engineers validate concepts earlier, shorten development cycles, and elevate product quality.

This is a hands‑on opportunity to contribute to meaningful engineering challenges while developing technical depth in aerodynamics, turbomachinery, and computational fluid dynamics.

Remote students (out of the Tallahassee, FL area) are also welcome.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Create aerodynamic designs and air‑solid models to support compressor concept development and improve overall performance.

  • Run high‑fidelity CFD simulations to predict compressor behavior and identify areas for optimization.

  • Analyze and compare simulation outputs against lab test data to validate models and guide engineering decisions.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate findings into actionable design improvements.

  • Support additional tasks that contribute to a safe, organized, and high‑quality engineering environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Graduate‑level study in Mechanical Engineering, Aerodynamics, or Turbomachinery.

  • Ability to perform CFD analysis using tools such as ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Fluent, or similar platforms.

  • Working knowledge of CAD modeling tools.

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or another scientific programming environment.

  • Strong communication skills for sharing insights with engineering partners.

  • Ability to work at least 20 hours a week during the semester and up to 40 hours a week during the summer break.

What You'll Get from Us

  1. We promote from within and support your learning with mentoring, training, and access to global opportunities.
  2. You’ll have flexibility, autonomy, and support to do your best work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Your well-being matters to us.
  3. We strive to create an inclusive work environment where people of all backgrounds are respected, and valued for who they are.
  4. You’ll receive benefits like 13th salary, annual bonus, paid vacation, pension plans, personal insurance, and more. These vary by country and contract, but they’re worth asking about—we think they’re pretty great.
