We are looking for a highly experienced Development Manager to lead our new Hydrogen Development Team located in Tokyo, Japan. To be successful, the Development Manager needs to be able to lead a dynamic team through market strategy, customer outreach and relationship building, and strategic communication. The manager is expected to be a team player with a strong entrepreneurial mind for future team development in Japan, while working closely with global team members to develop new opportunities for heavy-duty hydrogen mobility applications.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Drive engagement and strengthen relationships with strategic OEMs for development of new demonstration and proof-of-concept projects in hydrogen and power-to-x
- Utilize open, clear communication with US-based leadership to engage opportunities, convey project progress, and identify problems
- Lead Hydrogen Development Team in development and execution of engagement strategies for new project development, including opportunity pipeline prioritization and collaboration with regional assets on market priorities
- Align, validate, and support market communications efforts in support of establishing and emphasizing impact of Hydrogen Mobility Team’s efforts
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify new regional sales opportunities and channels in stationary power conversion, heat transfer, and waste heat recovery
- Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the company’s unique value proposition and differentiators
Background & Skills
The ideal candidate possesses these skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or equivalent (Masters preferred)
- 5-10 years of experience in business development and/or consulting, preferably in Japanese/Asia Pacific Region automotive or heavy industry sectors
- Experience in project/program management
- Technical background with commercial profile or experience
- Experience with different sales channels (distributors, OEM and project sales)
- Proven track record in driving initiatives, results, and engagement
- Ability to work in a matrixed and global environment
- Strong communication skills in Japanese and English languages
- Ability to work in a dynamic operating environment including teleconferences with USA/Europe outside of normal business hours (20% of the time)
- Ability to travel up to 25% for engagement opportunities
